What Is Banksman Training?

Banksman Training teaches workers how to safely guide vehicle and plant movements on worksites such as construction sites, warehouses, quarries, factories, or transport yards.
A “banksman” is responsible for ensuring vehicle reversing, loading, and manoeuvring are done safely and efficiently.

Who should attend?

This course is aimed at any person responsible for assisting in the manoeuvring of vehicles in the work place. 

  • Site operatives who guide heavy vehicles, lorries, forklifts, excavators, telehandlers, etc.

  • Supervisors or managers responsible for traffic management.

  • Anyone working near moving vehicles who may occasionally act as a signaller.

Course content

This course covers the following:

The causes of accidents involving vehicles in the workplace

The legislation & legal responsibilities covering vehicle movement in the workplace

The risks involved in the movement of vehicles in the workplace

Control measures to alleviate the risk

Manoeuvring difficulties from a drivers point of view

Drivers & Banksman obligations

Recognised hand signals

Course Duration ½ day approx 3.5 - 4 hours max.

Training Approach

The training will be carried out using both Powerpoint presentation, video and practical sessions. Candidates will receive a copy of the FTS Banksman Training Handbook Assessment Continuous assessment by trainer plus theory test at the conclusion of training

Venue N.B: These courses can only be conducted on-site at customer premises and a suitable vehicle and driver will also have to be supplied.

Certification

On successful completion of the course and assessment a Fife Training Services Vehicle Banksman certificate of attendance will be issued to candidates.
