Abrasive Wheels

This course will provide candidates with an introduction to working safely with Abrasive Wheels.

Who should atend?   THis course is designed for anyone who may use Abrasive Wheels in their workplace.

An abrasive wheel is a rotating cutting or grinding tool made from abrasive particles bonded together. It’s designed to cut, grind, or shape metal, stone, or other hard materials through friction.

Key Features:

• Made of abrasive materials such as aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, or diamond.

• Mounted on machines like angle grinders, bench grinders, or cutoff saws.

• Used for tasks such as grinding welds, cutting steel pipes, sharpening tools, or shaping concrete.

Common Types:

• Cut-off wheels – thin wheels used for cutting metal or stone.

• Grinding wheels – thicker, used to remove material or smooth surfaces.

• Flap wheels – flexible, used for finishing and polishing.

Safety Note:

Abrasive wheels can be hazardous if not handled correctly.

Proper training, PPE (personal protective equipment), and regular inspections are essential to prevent accidents like wheel shattering or flying debris.
